Our Sod Installation Process Oakville

1. Site Preparation

We start by removing old grass, weeds, and debris. This step is crucial in areas like Cambridge’s clay-based soils or Oakville’s mix of sandy and compacted soils, where healthy growth requires a fresh, clean surface.

2. Soil Grading & Enrichment

The ground is leveled to ensure proper drainage, preventing water from pooling after heavy rain or snowmelt. We also add nutrient-rich topsoil or compost to give the sod a strong foundation.

3. Laying the Sod

Premium Ontario-grown sod is laid in a staggered, brick-like pattern. This prevents seams from lining up and ensures even coverage. Around curves, trees, and garden beds, we trim for a perfect fit.

4. Rolling & Watering

Once the sod is placed, we roll it with professional equipment to eliminate air pockets and press the sod firmly into the soil. The lawn is then thoroughly watered so the sod starts bonding with the ground right away.

5. Aftercare & Maintenance Plan

We don’t just leave you guessing. Our team provides detailed instructions for watering, mowing, and fertilizing. For example:

Watering: Keep soil moist for the first 10–14 days until roots establish.

Mowing: Wait until the sod is rooted before the first cut (usually 2–3 weeks).

Fertilizing: Light fertilization is recommended after the sod has taken hold.

Why Sod Installation Matters in Oakville

Oakville is known for its upscale neighbourhoods, family-friendly communities, and lakeside living. Homeowners here take pride in maintaining beautiful properties, and a lush green lawn is a big part of that curb appeal.

With premium homes in areas like Bronte, Glen Abbey, and Joshua Creek, sod installation is one of the quickest ways to achieve a healthy, finished lawn that complements Oakville’s high standard of living.

Because Oakville sits on Lake Ontario’s shoreline, its soil often contains a mix of clay and sandy textures. That can make growing grass from seed inconsistent and time-consuming.

Sod installation solves this problem by delivering instant coverage and long-term durability that adapts well to Oakville’s climate — cold winters, hot summers, and moderate rainfall in spring and fall.

Get that New Lawn Wet

You will want to water the new sod as soon as it has been installed, for the next 14 days you will want to water your area for at least 45 minutes, we recommended picking up a sprinkler so you're not spending 1 hour of your day standing there. Alternatively, manually water your lawn 2-3 times a day spending 10-15 minutes at a time. PRO TIP, make sure you really water the edges your sod is beside such as a sidewalk/ driveway.

After 14 days, space out our lawn watering for 1 hour per watering every 2-3 days.

Let it grow then let it Mow

After the first 14 days of watering make sure your lawns have rooted to the ground, you can check by 2-3 soft tugs near the roots to ensure that your lawn has fully rooted to the lawn.

On your first and second lawn mowing cut make sure that your lawn mower is on the highest setting. On the next 2-3 cuts you can gradually lower the mower setting.

It Helps

At Monarch Landscaping we apply a thin layer of fertilizer with every installation,  after the install we recommend waiting 6-8 weeks.

Pro Tip: Fertilizer should be watered in or applied just before it rains to ensure you don't burn your lawn.
