Give Your St. Catharines Property a Lush, Green Lawn

St. Catharines is known for its scenic vineyards, rolling terrain, and diverse mix of clay and sandy soils — conditions that can make growing grass from seed slow and unpredictable.

At Monarch Landscaping, we offer premium, Ontario-grown sod that takes root quickly, enhances curb appeal instantly, and thrives in the unique climate of St. Catharines and the Niagara Region.

Whether you’re refreshing an existing lawn, creating a durable play area for your family, or stabilizing a sloped yard, our professional sod installation services deliver a healthy, vibrant lawn that lasts for years to come.

Our Sod Installation Process St. Catharines

1. Site Preparation
We begin by removing old grass, weeds, and debris to create a clean foundation. Since
St. Catharines and the Niagara Region have a mix of clay and sandy soils, we add soil amendments to boost nutrients and promote strong root growth.

2. Grading & Leveling
Proper grading ensures efficient drainage and prevents pooling or erosion. Extra attention is given to sloped and low-lying areas for long-term lawn health.

3. Laying the Sod
Our
Ontario-grown sod is installed in a staggered pattern for seamless coverage and natural appearance. Curves, garden beds, and walkways are cut precisely to ensure a perfect fit.

4. Rolling & Watering
A professional sod roller removes air pockets and ensures full soil contact. We then apply deep watering to help roots bond quickly and evenly.

5. Aftercare Instructions
Once the installation is complete, we provide detailed aftercare guidance — including watering, mowing, and fertilizing schedules — to help your new lawn thrive and stay lush for years to come.

Get that New Lawn Wet

You will want to water the new sod as soon as it has been installed, for the next 14 days you will want to water your area for at least 45 minutes, we recommended picking up a sprinkler so you're not spending 1 hour of your day standing there. Alternatively, manually water your lawn 2-3 times a day spending 10-15 minutes at a time. PRO TIP, make sure you really water the edges your sod is beside such as a sidewalk/ driveway.

After 14 days, space out our lawn watering for 1 hour per watering every 2-3 days.

Let it grow then let it Mow

After the first 14 days of watering make sure your lawns have rooted to the ground, you can check by 2-3 soft tugs near the roots to ensure that your lawn has fully rooted to the lawn.

On your first and second lawn mowing cut make sure that your lawn mower is on the highest setting. On the next 2-3 cuts you can gradually lower the mower setting.

It Helps

At Monarch Landscaping we apply a thin layer of fertilizer with every installation,  after the install we recommend waiting 6-8 weeks.

Pro Tip: Fertilizer should be watered in or applied just before it rains to ensure you don't burn your lawn.

SODDING St. Catharines FAQs

Got a question about sod? We are here to help.

  • What type of sod is best for St. Catharines lawns?

With proper care, sod typically roots within 10–14 days, though full establishment may take 4–6 weeks depending on weather and soil type..

  • How long does sod installation take?

Spring (April–June) and early fall (September–October) are ideal. Cooler temperatures and consistent rainfall help sod establish quickly.

  • When is the best time to lay sod in St. Catharines?

Sod installation typically ranges from $2.50 to $3.50 per square foot, depending on yard size, grading, and site prep. Sloped or difficult-access properties may require additional preparation.

  • How soon can I walk on my new lawn?

We recommend waiting 10 to 14 days before walking on freshly laid sod to allow the roots to establish. Light foot traffic for watering or maintenance is fine, but avoid heavy use during the first two weeks.
